I'll be frank, I liked the concept behind Fiverr.com.
Just a few clicks and a customer can put an order using a freelancer according to a particular set of deliverables.
Easy peasy, right? Sure, but it comes at a cost. A large one.
This is only the couple freelance platforms where buyers have been given free reign to abuse, threaten and outright blackmail sellers any way they like.
Why? Because Fiverr turn a blind eye on it.
In this post, I'd like to talk about a recent bad experience for a seller on Fiverr, and I chose to give up on the platform altogether.
(I have been advising her on building up a respectable account, and the way to go beyond and above with every last purchase. Everything mentioned is her doing, I am only an observer.)
In this case, she had only gotten another $5 order on her logo gig, which seemed to be like any other... so we thought.
The purchase was fulfilled in great time, and my buddy had even included a bonus logo concept as well as the source file (that is usually part of the costlier bundle ).
The client"loved" among the concepts and so we proceeded to send her the appropriates record sizes, as stated in the final description.
The customer came back asking for a social networking kit to go with the emblem, something which is clearly not available as a member of her post.
Against my advice, my girlfriend chose to deliver the additional job, although not getting paid any extra for this.
After that, the client responded with more demands and some changes to the social networking files.
At this time, she concurred enough was enough.
Despite every effort to please this individual, they were clearly overstepping their bounds here.
This is when the client went from only overstepping boundaries to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of carrying my girlfriend's Fiverr standing hostage.)
While she took a while to ponder a response and reach to Fiverr support for assistance, the customer did finally go on and leave a 1 star review.
Presumably this was to show her he/she was Fiverr review - Bonsai not kidding.
Soon after, while still waiting on Fiverr's response to the service question, the customer paid an additional $10 to your social media kit.
Of course, the payment was accompanied by still another threat.
At this point, all I wanted to do was go all Liam Neeson and seek this individual down so that I could repeatedly punch them from the face.
But, in the moment, I had hope that Fiverr support could step in and rescue my girlfriend out of that PITA client.
When the answer came back from Fiverr support, they told her they couldn't Fiverr Review - Get Everything Done for just $5 - SixPL force the buyer to take the order.
Okay, that's fair enough. (Even though the buyer accepted it.)
In addition they suggested drawing up a listing for the buyer to show the work has been done in accordance to the gig requirements.
Honestly, this reply simply didn't cut the mustard.
My girlfriend hauled in her initial email that the client was attempting to extort her for free work outside the agreed conditions, by making a negative inspection if she did not comply.
Naturally, it wasn't about the work, it had been all about seeking protection against an abusive client who had been intentionally pushing their luck.
Their reply did not offer us any confidence that Fiverr actually understood that, and even in this stage we felt as though they did not need to get involved.
At exactly the exact same time, she also responded to the buyers latest danger, explaining that she would not continue to function with them unless the comments was changed/removed.
(Again, this can be comments that has been obviously and intentionally left to bully her to supplying function out of the agreed provisions .)
A fair request by anyones standards, right? Well, apparently not.
Instead of acknowledge what the purchaser had completed until this point, Fiverr immediately turned the tables in my girlfriend.
Turns out, she had been the one breaking all of the rules.
Since she had asked the client to modify their opinions, she was no longer eligible for some help from Fiverr support.
You can imagine how we both felt reading this.
What the buyer had done and said prior to her very last message was now being swept under the carpet -- as if never happened in any way.
Fiverr basically opted to encourage a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend with a permanent stain in an account she had worked so hard to build up.
If everything that happened wasn't troubling enough, it's knowing that this individual is still running rampant on Fiverr, preying on defensless sellers without a shred of repercussion.
And think, there are plenty of buyers doing exactly that on Fiverr, knowing they could and will get away with it.
But as most of this was occurring, I did some research to determine whether any other vendors went through a similar ordeal with a buyer.
Very quickly, I discovered a range of almost identical cases over the Fiverr forum outdated years back. (that's correct, decades.)
This is obviously something that's been happening for quite a while and it stems from giving buyers also much power over sellers.
If there's 1 thing I've learned about Fiverr, it is that clients are ALWAYS more valued than freelancers.
Doesn't matter how much time you put into a job, or how hard you worked on itor maybe how long you handled communication in a dispute, when it really comes down to it... freelancers have little to no protection.
Even if it is a clear cut situation in your favour, there is still every chance the client will come out on top. All it takes it one tiny thing that you"did wrong" in accordance with their own terms of service and EVERYTHING else is ignored
Looking at the signs, it is clear to me which Fiverr is well aware of what is going on, yet remains eager to sit back and let it happen.
If you are a decision maker at Fiverr and you're reading this, I implore you to seriously reevaluate your existing support procedures for freelancers.
It is not right that someone can place all that time and effort in to establishing an account and also over-delivering at every possible opportunity, only to be shot down by the very people that you rely on to safeguard you.
Look, I do not wish to leave Fiverr. I don't wish to be telling people to prevent your system.
But after everything that's happened, you haven't left me any choice.
Until something is done to shield freelancers from this sort of abuse, I will continue to spread this article and do whatever I could to stop others from falling victim to why not try these out your one-sided support team.
The second you actually do something about this and also provide freelancers a way to fight , I will be more than happy to update this post.
